In the early 20th century Mr Robins and Mr Day were both running bicycle businesses and decided to team up. In 1913, they incorporated their companies to form the Robins and Day group. The Robins and Day group then became part of the Rootes Motor Company which traded in Hillman, Humber, Singer, Sunbeam and models. It was in 1960 that they also added Talbot and later Peugeot to their list of brands.
Leaving the other brands behind, it was in 1970 that the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Peugeot Motor Company and thereby exclusively maintained the Peugeot franchise until just a few years ago.
After decades of exclusivity with Peugeot, change was afoot, marking the next big milestone with the company’s venture with the Citroen Retail Group.
The Citroen Retail Group has been in existence for around 30 years. They started by concentrating their efforts with just a small number of dealerships, but ones in key market locations such as Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and London, giving them good reach and building up brand recognition across the country.
In 2010, Robbins and Day began taking care of the Citroen Retail Group’s day-to-day running. One of the main changes was to actively encourage employees to change freely around and work in different areas of the company, therefore allowing them to amalgamate more of the processes and increase staff knowledge across the board.
These measures proved to be so successful that the Citroen Retail Group fully integrated itself into Robins and Day Group. As well as Peugeot, now all Citroen, as well as their DS models are sold under the Robbins and Day brand.
Continuing their path of expansion, 2019 saw GO Vauxhall being welcomed in, and with it came their 10 sites across London and the South East of England. All of these existing GO Vauxhall sites incorporated themselves with the Robins and Day rebranding and logo which had been redesigned to coincide with the joining of Vauxhall. Incorporating the PSA Retail branding, the new logo envelops all the four brands owned by the manufacturer.
All of this has resulted in over 62 new vehicle franchises and yet more investment is to come. The Group is investing in a multi-million pound plan to transform the design of its dealerships which will incorporate a rather striking Blue Box exterior which is a Peugeot exclusive.
